Privacy policy
Weinon is a community map for animal care in Lebanon. This page explains what the app collects, why, and the choices you have. Weinon is in a pilot, so some practices, such as retention periods, are still being finalised and are described honestly below.
What you can do without an account
You can browse the map, vets and care places signed out. The app does not ask for your location when it starts. It asks only when you choose to use your position, for example to place a sighting or get directions, and only while the app is open. Weinon never collects location in the background.
What we collect when you sign in or report
- Account: your email address (or the Google account email if you sign in with Google), used for one-time sign-in codes and account messages.
- Profile (optional): name, profile photo, phone number, general region or neighbourhood, a short bio, and details about your pets. Only your name is required. Do not enter a home address.
- Reports: the animal details you enter, up to three photos, and the map pin you place. Your exact pin and any contact details stay private. Public views show only an approved, reduced location precision.
- Messages and activity: in-app messages, offers of help, notifications in your inbox, and moderation actions taken on content.
- Drafts: unfinished reports are saved on your device so you can finish later.
Photos
Photos you upload are processed on our server: they are re-encoded and location metadata (EXIF) is removed. They stay private until a moderator approves them for public display. Never-approved and quarantined uploads are not published.
How we use data
To run the map and reports, match animals with people who can help, moderate content, keep the service safe, prevent abuse, and answer support requests. We do not sell personal data. Weinon does not handle payments, pool funds or collect donations.
Advertising
The app shows contextual ads through Google AdMob (a banner on the map and an interstitial after you publish a report). Ads are non-personalised and the app does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, so it does not show the App Tracking Transparency prompt. AdMob may receive device and usage information, such as your IP address (which gives an approximate location), device identifiers and ad interaction data, to serve and measure ads and prevent fraud. In the European Economic Area and the UK, Google's consent message asks for your choice before ads load, and you can change it later in the app. Your exact report locations, photos and profile are never sent to advertisers.
Service providers
- Supabase hosts our database, authentication and private file storage.
- Google provides sign-in (if you choose it), the Google basemap and AdMob ads.
- OpenStreetMap data supplies vet and care-place listings. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL).
- Email delivery for sign-in codes.
These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms and policies.
Who can see what
Other people see only what is public: approved photos, a reduced location and the alias you choose. Reviewers and coordinators appointed by the operator can see more only where needed to review a case. Trusted-helper status is assigned by reviewers, not by profile text.
Your choices and rights
- Export: request a copy of your data from your profile (Me) in the app.
- Delete: request account deletion from the app. Requests are reviewed by the operator, then your account is anonymised, your owned images are removed and your sign-in is deleted. Some case records may be kept in anonymised form so that other people's cases and safety history remain intact.
- Edit: change or clear your optional profile fields at any time.
- Permissions: location, camera and photos are optional and can be turned off in your device settings.
You can also email support@weinon.app for access, correction, deletion or any privacy question.
Retention
We keep data only as long as needed to run the service. Exact retention periods for closed cases, photos, drafts and audit records are still being set during the pilot. We will update this page when they are final.
Children
Weinon is not directed at children under 13, and accounts are for people aged 13 and over. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will remove it.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit, private data is separated from public data, and access is controlled by role. No online service can promise perfect security.
Changes
We will post changes here and update the date above.
